GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clint

1 April 2026

With the Easter holidays nearly here, it’s a great time to look ahead at what’s shaping up on the Gold Coast. We’re building towards the full moon this week, with bigger morning tides starting to push through.

Fishing has definitely been a grind on some days lately. I’ve had to cover plenty of ground, working areas from Sovereign Island right through to Bundall to find consistent action. We’ve still been picking up sand whiting, winter whiting, bream, tarwhine, grunter and a few mixed random species, but those neap tides made things tough at times. The good news is the tides are starting to build again now, and more run means more fun.

Looking ahead, I’ve got tomorrow (Thursday 2 April) available for a private charter for 1 to 4 people. After that, the next available dates are April 7, 8, 10 and 14.

From now through to November is one of my favourite times of year. The water starts cooling, and the fishing really fires up. We’ll see more flathead, squid, flounder, tuskfish and those bigger winter whiting moving through. Whether you’re into bait fishing with yabbies and beach worms or chasing fish on lures, there are plenty of great options.

I’m especially looking forward to getting stuck into the vibe lures again. Ecogear ZX and Samaki Vibelicious are absolute standouts for strike rate, and I’ll be working them across both shallow and deeper water. Some of my go-to areas include Southport main channel, Currigee and Runaway Bay.

Flathead season is just around the corner, with the prime months running from May through to November. Dusky flathead are a staple on the Gold Coast, and they’re always a great target. Squid fishing is another highlight this time of year, and after nine years chasing them on charters, it’s still one of my favourite things to do.

Plenty to look forward to and some great fishing ahead. Come explore our beautiful, sheltered waterways!
