GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

13 July 2025

Another busy week for charters and lots of variety caught including dusky flathead, bartail flathead, flounder, arrow squid, sand whiting, winter whiting, bream, tarwhine, tailor, snapper.

Again the squid definitely aren’t thick compared to previous years but there are some bigger ones about, they are usually good until September so there is still time for them to come on. The cold and clear water suits them and the winter species of fish too.

Best areas for fish and squid have been Southport, Bayview,  Currigee, and Runaway Bay.

This coming week we have morning low tides which make it easy to pump yabbies and they catch stacks of fish in the broadwater. Or if using lures only blades and vibes in the deep during run in tides, soft plastics in the shallows for flathead later in the run out are best, then squid jigs in the deeper channels around high tide. It pays to experiment with squid jig colours to find what appeals to them.
