GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clint
13 September 2024
Another week of tough fishing for flathead in the broadwater during the neap tides, the bait and fish have been staying deeper where there’s more current. This next big Southerly blow could change things, some rain in the the next two weeks will be good too.

Flathead love quite dirty water to ambush food at close range. This is also the start of their breeding season with multiple males chasing the bigger females, before and after mating they get hungry to maintain condition as they spawn over the summer months.

In the estuary there has been lots of quality sand whiting, spotted grunter, bream, trevally and mulloway. Next week we have full moon so things should fire up nicely with bigger tides.
More run more fun!

I’ll be mixing it up on charters fishing everywhere from Ashmore to Jumpinpin. New lures I’ve picked up and keen to try are Z Man Prawnz Elite, they’re available now at Sporty’s, 32 Strathaird Rd, Bundall. If it’s windy trolling will be very useful, and the Samaki Redic df 50mm divers have been deadly on flathead, trevally, whiting, grunter, and bream.
