GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto
16 January 2025
Things move fast here at the Gold Coast. We got a heap of rain and muddy water again just when the water had cleared and the river was looking good for jacks. However the king tides got things flushing fast and fired up the fishing again big time for summer whiting, and a huge number of juvenile mulloway. I’ve never seen so many and they’re in shallow with the whiting.

Of course with king tides you get extremes, on the run in great whiting fishing then half way into the run out the vermin appear, ponyfish and catfish. No dull moments that’s for sure and non stop action when the tide is running. Big run big fun and 100+ fish caught in a day, with good quality whiting schools widespread downstream. We are now after the full moon period and tides get gradually smaller making it best to fish the Northern broadwater where there is more flow, there are some very small tides coming up around the neaps. Where the dirty water meets the clean is a good starting point to fish and catch a lot of variety.

My next available dates are 24, 28, 29 January then 3, 5 February.
Options include big summer whiting with beach worms and yabbies (drifting, anchoring, wading depending on tide times), and lures in the broadwater for a variety.
