GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT

by Clint

17 October 2025

We’re crying out for a decent fall of rain. It’s been dry for months and, while the water’s clear and very fishable, it’s getting a bit too clean and salty. A proper fresh would flush the creeks, stir the bait, balance the salinity and kick the whole system back into gear. Rain washes nutrients off the banks, oxygenates the water, and cleans out the slime in the shallow, then a few days later the bite goes next level.

That said, fishing’s still been very good. We’re seeing plenty of quality sand whiting on the chew, plus school flathead, tarwhine, bream and grunter. Up-river temps are nudging 26°C, a touch cooler toward the mouths.

My favourite way to fish right now and through to March is wading the clear, shallow sand flats of the Broadwater. With 3–4 lb line it’s hard to beat for pure fun, and it’s the most effective daytime method I know for catching big sand whiting. Great fun and a great feed!

Want to experience it? SMS 0432 990 302 for details.

Week ahead:

We’re leading into the new moon on 21 October with moderate tides, ideal for a nice, even flow across the flats and through the channels. I’ll be targeting flathead on lures, and chasing whiting on bait over the flats.

Availability:

I’m fully booked this coming week. Next openings: 3, 6, 7, 10, 17 November. Next weekend spots: 22 November; 6 & 13 December.
