THIS WEEK’S GOLD COAST AND TWEED ESTUARY FISHING REPORT AND NEWS

18 November 2022

Dad joke:

I went on a date last night with a girl from the zoo

It was great. She’s a keeper.

TWEED RIVER by Smithy

G’day everyone the Tweed was a little bit quieter at the beginning of the week due to the very small tides. As the tides started picking up towards the end of the week so did the fishing and it will only get better leading into next week.

There were a heap of hard fighting GTs in the river this week

The deep holes throughout the river were absolutely packed with bait schools and this is where a variety of fish were holding. Deepwater jigging with a combination of both zx 40s and samaki vibes smacked a variety of species. The fish caught were grunter, whiting, bream, small school jew, little mangrove jacks, giant and bigeye trevally and an absolute hoard of flatties.

As there has been all year we constantly caught and carefully released a heap of small jewies
Cute little mangrove jacks like this one were smashing the zx40 vibes

GOLD COAST RIVERS by Clinto

The relatively cool water temperature for this time of year has ensured continued good flathead fishing. Most days we have been boating around 20 flathead with some tailor, bream, whiting, flounder in the mix too. Best areas have beeb Crab island, North Currigee, and Browns Inlet.

A great day fishing with Wal & sister Millie

Friday was a stand out with our regular customer Wal and his sister Millie enjoying a day when the fish kept biting constantly with around 40 flatties caught on Zman ST Grubs, Ecogear ZX40, and Fish Craft Dirty Dr vibe. The hot bite defied the low almanac and the fish were very aggressive, chasing lures to the surface multiple times. The water has been quite clear so natural and light colour lures like Opening Night Zman have been best.

Zman ST Grubz continue to catch heaps

During the week there were also some good sized sand whiting on the shallow flats, and even more flathead, they are everywhere at the moment. It’s amazing how many fish are in very shallow water.

Another big day using soft plastics

New moon is this coming Thursday 24 November, with tides getting bigger and morning high. The flathead and whiting fishing will be good on top of the shallow banks early in the mornings.

Kept a few for dinner
