TWEED RIVER by Smithy
Smithy did one rain affected trip this week and caught some flathead. Today in the rain he was walking along Tweed river now casting his current favourite jack lure (Atomic Shiner in Tristo’s proton pill colour)

And here are some of Smithy’s top tips on fishing with his all time favourites lures:
- Troll with the tide in 1-4 metre depth, at 1-2 knots speed, you’ll catch more fish. Pay attention at all times that the lures are swimming straight(if not tune them) and free of weed.
- Jig blades and vibes with a short, quick consistent rhythm while casting or drifting
- Use surface lures in shallow water up to 60cm depth, sunny and 10-15 knot wind is best. Non stop retrieve for whiting.
- Use a metre of 10 lb fluorocarbon leader tied onto PE 0.6 braid for vibes and blade lures. Use 6 lb leader for trolling.
- Smear a drop of Sax scent all over lures to increase your chances of a bite.

No fishing for me this week with the rain and wind. Much welcome rainfall though, over 100mm here at Bundall this week.
I’m sure we’ll get more before winter, which will ensure some great fishing and squidding in the months ahead.
