GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clint

2 November 2025

It’s great to finally see the summer rains starting, they’ve already fired up the estuary fishing!

Sand whiting are turning up everywhere, which is always exciting this time of year, and the sizes are excellent. If the storms keep rolling through, we’re in for some epic fishing over the next few months. Both wading the shallow, clear flats of the Broadwater and drifting by boat in depths up to seven metres are producing solid catches. The bycatch has also been strong, with flathead, winter whiting, grunter, tarwhine, and plenty of bream keeping rods busy.

The whiting on the flats are getting bigger each week. They’re fantastic fun on light 3–4 lb gear and make top quality eating. Lately, we’ve been averaging around 20–30 keepers per trip. Wading those shallow, crystal clear flats is a perfect way to enjoy nature and some great fishing.

Flathead have been responding well to the recent rain and the slightly cooler, discoloured water. I spotted plenty of flathead lies on the banks this week while chasing whiting. November is typically still a productive month for flatties before the bite tapers off as they move into spawning mode over summer.

We’ve got a full moon next Thursday, bringing big morning high tides and strong runouts-ideal conditions for chasing big whiting in the rivers during the day. Beach worms and bloodworms are the go to baits upriver, while yabbies continue to work best in the Broadwater.

I’m fully booked until 17 November, with only five charter dates still available this month. Then it gets non stop busy until March 2026. Book early to avoid missing out.
