GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

21 April 2025

Great to see the fishing firing up this week as the water clears and the rain goes away. We caught big numbers of sand whiting, winter whiting, grunter, bream, tarwhine, and a few flathead using yabbies, beach worms, and blade vibes.

There is lots of bait fish schools and small prawns around and as the water cools more we will see lots of flathead, flounder, tuskfish and squid coming into the rivers and broadwater in the next few weeks.

We are nearing my favourite time of the year for estuary fishing on the Gold Coast. There is good fishing all year around here but I love the months of May to September especially. The weather settles, it’s cooler, the waterways are quieter, and the lure fishing is great for flathead, squid, flounder, winter whiting, tailor, and others. And there are still big sand whiting to be caught on yabbies and worms.

My next available dates are 29, 30 April, then 19  May. It has been a very busy Easter period for charters with 19 charters done in the past 21 days. This coming week should nearly see Hinze dam stop spilling which is good for river fishing, the morning high and run out tides will get bigger which is good for flathead in the broadwater. There are still a lot of nice size sand whiting and a few flounder in the broadwater at the Howard channel, Seaworld, North Currigee, and the Broadwater reef East of Carter’s bank.
