23 April 2021 fishing report & news

23 April 2021

*Very good fishing at Tweed and Gold Coast

Dad joke:

My teenage son treats me like a god.

He acts like I don’t exist until I want something.

Well what a magic week of fishing that was supplemented by perfect weather conditions.

The mornings started off with a slightly chilly light south westerly wind blowing but as the sun came up the wind dropped off and left us to fish in the warm sunshine.

The GT’s have been smashing lures
A pair of nice trevally
Lucas with a great hard fighting GT

The best results this week came from fishing the deep holes on the run out tides with the Samaki vibelicous lures. We caught an unbelievable amount of very good quality flatties around the 50cm mark as well as the odd bigger fish. There was also the odd nice Giant trevally lurking in the same holes and of course the ever reliable bream.

Lets hope we can keep this great action rolling into next week.

This flattie spat out a small one onto the deck of the boat
Morris had a great day and enjoyed lure fishing for the first timep
Ian with one of the many flathead he caught on the Samaki vibe
We caught a heap of flatties around the 50cm mark this week

A good fishing week at the Gold Coast with some nice jewies, flathead, tuskfish, whiting, flounder and others caught on charters.

Fishing highlights

We found the jewies by drifting through bait schools located in the seaway and Nerang river with the help of my ever reliable Humminbird fish finder. There are plenty or sharks around though ready to tax your catch.

Annika and Calle caught some nice tuskfish
Annika caught her first ever jewfish

There was heaps of baitballs and prawns along the entire Western channel between Grand hotel and Sundale bridge, with flathead, sand whiting, winter whiting, flounder, and tailor feeding there.

Some solid tuskfish turned up around Runaway bay in the dirtier water on the run out tide.

A pristine day at Nerang river
Matt landed a nice Jewie

The water is fast clearing with the bigger tides leading up to full moon next Tuesday, hopefully the arrow squid start turning up over the next week. Water temp now 22-23 degrees.
