23 January 2021 fishing report & news

23 January 2021

*Tweed muddy but starting to clear

*Gold Coast jacks

*New lure arrivals

*Lead up to full moon this week

Dad joke:

My boss told me to have a good day….

So I went home.

The river has become very muddy again after another dumping of rain in the catchment.

We have been fishing the deeper holes in the mid sections with Samaki soft vibes and catching flathead and large numbers of bream.

Until the water clears more try fishing the run in tides leading up to full moon this week with vibes for mulloway, flathead, bream, whiting and trevally from the golf club to stotts.

The water has continued to clear and warm up, which has suited mangrove jack fishing. We caught and released jacks up to 52cm this week. If the warm weather continues there should be a good bite leading up to full moon on Friday.

The sand flats have been quieter than usual this week due to the tiny neap tides. We have been finding whiting on vibes and yabbies in the deeper channels where there is more tidal flow. It was also good to see lots of tuskfish, flounder, squid, tarwhine, flathead on the calm water reef areas in the Gold Coast broadwater.

The river was slow due to the neap tides. The bigger tides this week will help but hot water in the shallows is not ideal for some species like flathead. There is unbelievable numbers of bream everywhere in the canals. Have a go for them with MMD soft prawns that are now available in our online store goldcoastlures.com

We have arriving this week the new Pro Lure blades in 42mm size which we are extremely excited about. Their colours and action are superb and will slay quality fish. Watch this space! I will be writing a new article soon describing how to use our favourite vibe lures which include Samaki Vibelicious, Ecogear ZX, and Pro Lure V42.

Also fresh stocks of our go to colours in the Ecogear ZX40 and 43 blades will be arriving this week after a long wait. Keep an eye out on our shop because they are guaranteed to sell out fast once again.

This week guys good options are trolling the banks at high tide with Pontoon 21 crack jacks, vibing the river middle sections, and using yabbies on top of sand banks at higher tides in the Southern broadwater.

School holidays are ending which means less jetski and boat flog traffic on the water and better fishing. Sorry but I still have issues with selfish people that don’t respect other peoples rights to also enjoy the waterways. Anyway better times ahead!

Proud to add Spotters sunglasses to our sponsors and preferred suppliers this this week! This great Aussie company makes serious fishing sunnies that last a long time.
