G’day everyone I had a very busy week and fished the Tweed River almost every day.

Earlier in the week it was extremely hot and humid, and the water temperature reached almost 29 degrees and talking to Clint the upper reaches of the Nerang River was the same. When the water gets this hot it can cause some concerns especially for the flatties but the trick is to fish the deep holes.

Doug with a flattie jigged up in deep water on a samiki vibelicous

The reason for this is our sounders read the surface temperature of the water but along the bottom of the deep holes the water is usually a bit cooler without the influence of the sun, so deep water jigging was the way to go with a combination of Samaki vibelicious and Ecogear zx 40 blades.

Damo was all smiles catching his first ever GT and it put up a great fight on light gear

The fish caught were flatties , bream, whiting and giant trevally and on one morning my clents were running late so I had a quick fish and jigged up a nice little mangrove jack on the tide change. The water on the tweed is still a little bit dirty from the rain but once it clears up I am looking forward to start chasing some whiting on surface lures like the mmd splash prawns which is so much fun.

A nice little 45 cm jack I jigged up on the tide change while waiting for my clients

To all my valued clients and followers of our charters I wish you all and your families a very Merry Xmas.

A big week for me with a variety of charters, fishing day and night everywhere from Sovereign island to Carrara.

Myself and Wazza finally got out for a jack charter, with Tim, Ari, and Mika joining us for an evening fish. The red devils were on the attack, and we landed four, and some big bream and a cod.

Clint caught a 54cm jack
Wazza nailed this 57cm jack

Earlier on we fished the broadwater with ZX40’s in the 440 colour and caught whiting, flathead, squid, flounder, snapper.

This lure is deadset nothing short of phenomenal on so many species, and so is the Samaki Vibelicious. Gun lures!

Stunning tuskie on Ecogear ZX40

Other days we fished the Nerang river and Gold Coast broadwater with the above mentioned lures and caught trevally, flathead, tarwhine, bream, whiting, squid, tuskfish, queenfish, squire, grassy emperor.

There are mud crabs on the move on the bigger tides, water temperature has varied from 24 degrees in parts of the broadwater to 30 degrees up Nerang river.

After Christmas day we have neap tides which are good for pumping yabbies in the mornings and fish the flats and channels near the seaway.

Until more heavy rain arrives there will be jacks and trevally on the prowl in canals with some tide flow.

A very merry Christmas to everyone I know, stuff all the bullshit in the world. Just have fun.

Tune in every Saturday morning 5-6am on 94.1 FM when I chat to Paul Burt and give fishing tips on his new radio show.
