THIS WEEK’S GOLD COAST AND TWEED ESTUARY FISHING REPORT

27 April 2024

TWEED RIVER FISHING REPORT by Smithy

G’day everyone this is an awesome time of the year to be on the water with the mornings having a slight chill to them then turning into a mild temperature through the day. It is a welcome relief especially after going through such a hot and humid summer.

Some great weather and some consistently good fishing was the story of this week’s fishing. The lower reaches of the Tweed and the run in tides produced the best results particularly around the areas where the clean ocean water met the dirtier water from the huge amount of rain we have received this year. All the early season rain recorded so far this year is really going to set up a fantastic run of fish leading into our oncoming winter months.

The species we caught this week using a combination of trolling and jigging were flatties, bream, grunter, school jew, tailor and a couple of small giant trevally. There is no doubt with the water temperature now cooling down that the flatties are one species that should really start to become active from now and the winter months to come so I can’t wait to get back on the water next week.

GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

Well it seems the run of whiting here is never ending, this amazing fishing has  been helped by the rain that has kept arriving over the last four months.

With the water temperatures dropping to 23 degrees now we will see not only the great whiting fishing continue, but also lots of flathead, flounder, big bream, tailor, and many others including squid. Autumn and winter promises to be as good as any fishing period in the last five years.

This week around the full moon we caught loads of decent size whiting with up to 40 a day boated, and 20 kept on average. The smaller fish around 25cm and lip hooked get released. In recent days the bream numbers have absolutely exploded, with many of them decent sized and in ravenous mood, and there are still loads of good size grunter in Nerang river, and flathead starting to increase in number.

There has been masses of bait fish in the seaway and Northern broadwater being chased by tailor.

I have some days available this week so get in touch to book your private charter guaranteed to catch fish!

I’ll be using live yabbies and beach worms as well as lures including Samaki Redic, Fish Craft Dr.Prawn, Ecogear ZX, Rapala Crush City plastics, Zman plastics.
