GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clint

27 April 2026

The Gold Coast has just had around 80mm of rain, and it’s set things up perfectly. Not enough to dirty the water much, but just enough to fire the system up. This is exactly what we want heading into prime winter fishing.

Despite a bit of wind and showers lately, this time of year always turns it on quickly. Fewer boats, quieter waterways, and hungry fish. The conditions are about to line up very nicely.

Right now we’re seeing excellent variety across the Broadwater and Nerang River. Sand whiting have been best at night, but that daytime bite is about to switch on again very soon. On recent charters we’ve been catching flathead, tuskfish, trevally, flounder, winter whiting, tarwhine, bream, snapper, grunter, and squid on vibes and yabbies.

Water temps are sitting around 22 to 24 degrees and dropping. This is when flathead and squid really start to fire, and the next few months are some of the most consistent fishing of the year.

🔥 MAY TO SEPTEMBER CHARTER OPTIONS

If you want action, variety, or to target something specific, this is the season:

• Squid fishing with Samaki vibes, Ecogear ZX’s, and jigs, with plenty of bycatch

• Flathead on lures including plastics, vibes, blades, trolling hardbodies, and glide baits

• Big sand whiting in the Nerang River on yabbies and beach worms

• Broadwater reef drifts with light tackle, huge numbers of bites and species

• Ultra shallow flats fishing walking clear sand banks casting lures for whiting, flathead, and bream

Every trip is tailored. If tides and conditions allow, we can mix multiple styles in one session.

This Friday, Saturday, and a few spots next week are still open.

Weather is improving, wind is dropping, and the fishing is building.
