30 March 2025 fishing report 🎣

GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

30 March 2025

Nerang river catchment received over 250mm over the last few days to add to the recent 1000mm from Cyclone Alfred, and in total

1435 mm for March, and 1920mm since January!

Not surprisingly the river is chocolate brown colour again, over the weekend the tides didn’t move much because of the big swell plugging the seaway. Over the next few days there are some massive tides and this will flush some mud out and bring in more salt which is great.

Numbers of whiting have been hard to find because there are huge numbers of greedy bream, tarwhine, and spotted grunter getting to the baits first. In the Southern broadwater there are lots of sand whiting but average size is not good. Next week the morning run in tides should fish well. There are lots of fish along the local beaches including flathead, whiting, dart, and bream. Beach worms and pipis are best bait.

Looking ahead it’s getting very busy and I have only a few days still available for charters in the next three weeks. Next week only Wednesday is still available, and Easter school holidays for Queensland are nearly booked out, just three days are still available. We will see some sensational fishing in the coming weeks after the rain we’ve had, and soon we start to see lots of variety as the water cools and clears including flathead, flounder, squid, tailor, tuskfish, sand crabs, and lots more.  We mix up fishing with bait for big whiting, with lures as well including deeper water vibes, soft plastics, hard bodies, spinning lures, and squid jigs. Lots of fun options to catch a feed, and the Gold Coast’s original squid fishing charters.
