THIS WEEK’S GOLD COAST AND TWEED ESTUARY FISHING REPORT AND NEWS

She’s slowly coming around now.

TWEED RIVER by Smithy

G’day everyone, we had a great week of fishing the lower reaches of the Tweed this week with the good old flatties making up the bulk of the catch.

Mark Wally Williams 3 times world surf racing champion caught a good number of quality flatties.
My regular client Manny with a quality flattie

Fishing the deep holes that were holding the biggest schools of bait on the tide changes with Samaki and Ecogear zx 40 vibes did the damage.

We also caught some bream, whiting, school jew and grunter and I suspect with rising barometer and good early morning run in tides that the good fishing should continue into next week.

GOLD COAST RIVERS by Clinto

What a tough week of fishing! I had a few days off during some windy days, then fished near Ephraigm and Sovereign islands to find shelter from unseasonal Westerly wind.

We caught fish but the sizes were down. I think a combination of low air pressure, wonky air and water temperatures, (warm weather last week and cool this week) and an abundance of bait fish, has slowed the feeding activity of the larger fish. We still caught flathead, flounder, moses perch, whiting, and big eye trevally on yabbies, Ecogear ZX40’s and breamer vibes, Samaki vibes, and Zman plastics.

Zman ST Grubz have been catching heaps

The last few days we fished the Southern broadwater flats for sand whiting, flathead, and bream. Again sizes were down on average but numbers were good.

Adrian caught this 44cm horse of a whiting

Water temperature has dropped again to 21 degrees in some places.

This coming week there is a high pressure ridge persisting, this should result in flathead and whiting getting hungrier, especially in lead up to the full moon on Tuesday. Best areas should be Southport, Curlew Island, and Crab island.
