GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

4 October 2025

The flatties have still been hard to find, they are scattered and not easy to catch in numbers but at least we’re getting some nice sized ones most days in the broadwater. Crab island has heaps of snotweed at the moment and hard to fish. We now need some rain to really spark the flathead fishing.

The yabby flats have been firing up with whiting arriving in good numbers and bigger sizes. There is often big flathead looking to ambush a whiting too in the shallows this time of year. In the deeper channels there are still some schools of winter whiting, bream, tarwhine, and tailor.

Full moon is coming up on Tuesday and with that some big high tides. Night time is definitely best to catch big sand whiting now until the rains arrive. In the broadwater the water will be crystal clear with those bigger run ins, sometimes you’ll do best fishing deeper during these times. Six metres and deeper is good and look for bait and structure on the fish finder. If there is some wind around that can fire up the shallow areas, casting with soft plastics like Rapala Crush City, S Tackle fish tails, and Zman Prawnz Elite for flathead. You can get all the best tackle and lures at Sporty’s Fishing, 32 Strathaird Rd, Bundall.

I have some prime whiting wading dates available for charter on 29, 30 October. SMS me on 0432 990 302 to get the details on this exhilarating and highly productive form of fishing.

Col is back in action and his live beach worms are available at Aqua Adventures for those wanting to fish the rivers and beaches.
