GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

6 July 2025

It was good to see the back of that coastal low, those cold and gusting Westerly winds made it hard to fish the broadwater. All we could do was anchor and fish for winter whiting and sand whiting. I had some customers that were still keen to go so we toughed it out and they still had fun.

The fishing in Nerang river has been very slow, but the broadwater is firing up nicely. The last few days especially has been producing catches of 40 to 60 fish a day including flounder, flathead, bream, snapper, tarwhine, tailor, winter whiting, sand whiting, and squid as the wind dropped and air pressure rose. Some parts of the waterways has been cold with water temp as low as 14.8 degrees. Fishing the deeper reefy channels has been best in 6 to 13 metre depth. The deep wreck hole near Crab island has huge schools of big bream.

This coming week we have lead up to the full moon so expect the fishing to be on fire. The weather is looking good too and so it should be. The squid went a bit quiet after the water got stirred up by the wild winds and went silty green. It will all settle again this week. The morning run out tides are ideal size for fishing the deeper channels, yabbies and vibes such as Ecogear zx’s, and Samaki vibes will get smashed. The tailor and squid will be worth a go around high tide where there’s cleaner water. Exciting times to catch a beautiful range of delicious winter seafood!
