THIS WEEK’S GOLD COAST AND TWEED ESTUARY FISHING REPORT AND NEWS

7 January 2023

Dad joke:

I asked my wife if I was the only one she’d been with.

She said yes, all the others had been nines and tens.

TWEED RIVER by Smithy

G’day everyone I hope that you all had a fantastic Xmas and New Year break. I had a short break myself and had a few beers and spent some time with the family,  and as you do this time of the year eat too much.

It was good to get back on the water over the last few days and put my clients on to some fish. The water temperature is very hot at the moment with the surface temperature on the sounder getting up to 28.9 degrees by the middle of the day.

When this happens which it does most summers I fish deep all day as the water is a bit cooler on the bottom of the deep holes. The fish caught this week jigging Samaki and Ecogear zx 40 vibes were flatties, bream, beautiful little school jew, and a few hard fighting Giant Trevally.

Nic was more than happy to let this flattie be released

To book a private lure fishing charter with Brad call him on 0419 028 704 around 4-6pm daily. Brad is usually booked out a few weeks ahead.

GOLD COAST RIVERS by Clinto

Hi everyone, we have had some windy weather this week but we still had some very good fishing. Wherever we went the fish were hungry and feeding aggressively.

The sand flats of the broadwater have been producing lots of big sand whiting up to and over 40cm, and still many dusky flathead of various sizes. The water temperature is 26 degrees there, and there is still big schools of whitebait and poddy mullet.

The new Zman shad fryz have been smashing them

Craig got this 39cm whiting

There are big schools of bream in Nerang river, as well as school jew, giant trevally, spotted grunter, and barred grunter. There are also plenty of mangrove jack being caught on lures and live bait.

Favourite lures this week were Samaki hardlicious, Zman Shad Fryz soft plastics, and Ecogear ZX 30 blades. Sporty’s fishing at Bundall is the place to see if all the best lures and tackle.

Alf caught and released his first ever mulloway

Full moon is today Saturday 7 January,  the morning high tides are still quite big for a few days. Get up early if you want to pump yabbies next few days, or in the arvo.
