GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

7 November 2024

The week ahead looks mixed with the current heat giving way to a cooler change with lows around 20 and highs around 26. Typically mornings will be light wind at first then afternoons breezy and showery.

Good options including morning wading for whiting, flathead, and bream on the sand island flats, or up the river by boat chasing whiting, mulloway, grunter and trevally. The deeper broadwater channels are still worth a go with vibe lures for flathead, mulloway, and sand crabs.

The hot Northerly winds now will fire up the mangrove jacks, trevally and whiting, but slow the flathead bite in the shallows. The whiting did slow down around the new moon but should be back in numbers over the coming days.

At Nerang river one day this we actually caught more mulloway than whiting! It has amazing to see how many of these beautiful fish have been around both shallow and deep. All were carefully released apart from one which got bitten in half by a bull shark. The flats fishing will be on fire in the coming week with big whiting, yabbies are best bait, and surface lures worth a try during low light periods.
