GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clint

Another busy week of daily charters and it’s only going to get busier in Spring and summer. The flathead have been a bit slow this week after the new moon, and squid numbers are tapering off now the water is warming. The main species caught for us here at the gold coast have been good size whiting and grunter, and the usual plague numbers of bream.
Hopefully we get more bait fish schools moving into the broadwater this coming week. The run in tides are very clear, moving North of the seaway you’ll find more discoloured water and baitfish, further South has dirtier water from Northerly winds. Whiting numbers are increasing in Nerang river, night time is best to target them with live beach or blood worms.
Some snot weed is starting to appear, it probably won’t get too bad this week with South and East winds forecast. There is talk of a rain event around 15 September which is needed to fire up the flathead fishing. Morning lows this coming week make it easy to pump yabbies.
