GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinton

9 March 2024

Yet again this week the big sand whiting have been widespread through the Gold Coast broadwater, Nerang river, and local surf beaches.

Best bait to target them is yabbies in the broadwater and lower river, beach worms and blood worms up river and beaches. There has also been a lot of big tarwhine biting, various types of trevally, and heaps of bull sharks. It’s worth a go for crabs too with these bigger tides.

The strong wind persisting until Tuesday makes it harder, anchoring in sheltered areas of the rivers is the way to go, especially where there is still good tidal flow.

Big morning high tides around the new moon on Sunday will drop off later in the week. Big run big fun! You just have to know where to be, around bends when it’s the strongest flow, in the open when it’s slowing.

Apart from a couple of afternoon slots I am fully booked until 18 March then towards Easter it is flat out busy.
