THIS WEEK’S GOLD COAST AND TWEED ESTUARY FISHING REPORT AND NEWS

13 February 2021

*Big tides, tough week

*Mangrove jacks hitting lures at Tweed

How do you spot a blind man at a nudist beach!

It’s not hard.

TWEED RIVER by Smithy

G’day everyone it was a bit of a tricky week with massive tides and strong blustery south easterly winds blowing. The big tides combined with the wind put the shallow areas over depth  and stirred up the bottom making the water discoloured and unsuitable for topwater fishing.

A nice 49 cm jack caught trolling on an Atomic power minnow

The good news is that the conditions are looking great for next week and I expect some great results fishing with our surface lures once again. The success we did have this week came from trolling some deep diving minnows on the tide changes for a couple of mangrove jacks.

A quality whiting caught on a Samaki vibelicous lure

We also drifted some soft and metal vibes in the protected areas out of the wind and caught some flatties, bream and whiting with the new Pro Lure V42 vibe working very well.

GOLD COAST RIVERS by Clinto

Tough week of fishing, I’m not a fan of big tides. There were some flathead and bream in the Nerang river that we caught trolling Pontoon 21 crackjacks and Slams.

Haven’t tried for mangrove jacks so far this week but they will be on the bite.

A few nice broadwater whiting

Fished some banks yesterday for some whiting, flathead, tarwhine, bream but they weren’t around in numbers and a lot of small fish.

A pretty Spangled emperor

I’m looking forward to smaller tides this coming week to fish the broadwater reef and banks. I’ll be mixing up the lures with Samaki Vibelicious, Ecogear Zx’s and Pro Lure V42 blades, plus live yabbies always work amazing if presented well. I use whatever catches as many fish as possible for my guests.

Stunning Gold Coast sunset

There are showers forecast so we’ll try to dodge them.

Finally some cooler weather has arrived! The water temperature has dropped to 24 degrees in Nerang river and the Southern broadwater and soon we will see a big influx of flathead and flounder. There has already been lots of good size tailor getting caught which is hopefully a good sign for a great season ahead.
