THIS WEEK’S GOLD COAST AND TWEED ESTUARY FISHING REPORT AND NEWS

14 May 2021

*More rain but fishing still very good

*Charters still busy

*Good weather coming up

Dad joke:

Why are fish so easy to weigh?

Because they come with their own scales.

TWEED RIVER by Smithy

G’day everyone we had two massive storm fronts on Tuesday and Wednesday nights but this did not hinder the fishing this week.

Every morning started out with a light chilly westerly breeze blowing then the sun would warm up and leave us with warm glassy conditions.

The perfect conditions made it ideal for deep water jigging with a heap of fish caught in the 8 to 14 metre holes in the river. As always take the time to find where the bait is holding with your sounder before you start jigging for the best results.

There were heaps of flatties like this one caught by Heath in the deep holes

Flathead took the main stage again this week in fact we caught over 30 fish today of varying size and all were released. Other species caught this week were a heap of bream and a couple of giant trevally.

GOLD COAST RIVERS by Clinto

The Gold Coast broadwater is still fishing well for tuskfish, flathead, flounder, tarwhine, bream, sand whiting, and winter whiting.

A lovely mix from the Gold Coast broadwater

The arrow squid are still not around in numbers, but I suspect they’ll come flooding in as the water clears further and gets colder this coming week. We have had some glassed out days which does make fishing slower in the shallows.

Like last week, pumping yabbies in the morning can make a difference to your catch rate on the calm days. On charters I keep working the zx blades all day to draw in the fish which then snap up the yabbies offered by my guests.

Stunning day at Southport

This coming week we have neap tides which make it easier to fish near the seaway, and more productive than areas with less tidal flow. The best day according to the almanac is Thursday, but as I always say if fish are hungry they will eat.

*This is just a prediction. There are many factors when it comes to fishing and fish are unpredictable at times, there are no exact guarantees. We include this just for fun and see how it plays out every week.
