GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

15 August 2025

Classic winter fishing in the Gold Coast broadwater this week with lots of flathead, squid, bream, tarwhine, flounder, and sand whiting increasing in numbers.

The squid are getting bigger with some very nice ones amongst them, the best area has been the main channel from Seaworld to Sundale bridge. Currigee, Runaway Bay, and Bayview channels are always worth a try too. Now the water has cleaned right up we have been catching squid on all tides. 9am to 3pm is the best time when the sun is up higher. Average water temperature is sitting on around 18 degrees.

The flatties haven’t been consistent but when there’s baitfish around Crab island, North Currigee, and Curlew island the flathead are there hunting and feeding hard on run in and run out tides. The deeper channels next to the islands are worth a go with blades and vibes and they catch everything. There are heaps of bream in these areas and the reefy areas North of the seaway and in the deep hole just South of Crab island. Tailor have been turning up at times too chasing bait, keep an eye out for birds diving and tailor busting up, they make a big splash.

This coming week I have charters every day. When the winds not too bad I’ll definitely fish all over the broadwater for a big mix, while on windy days I’ll chase big whiting in the river.

Nearly fully booked in the next few weeks. Next available charter dates are 28 August, 2, 8, 10 September.
