A large variety of fish in the Broadwater and Nerang river caught on lures and bait, with the 4cm metal vibes catching a lot of fish as always.
Great fun and very consistent, as with most lures the natural and pale colours work best in clear water, and the fluoro or darker shades in discoloured water.
Had a day out with Tim and his mates from China, the bigger fish were hard to find but there was a lot of healthy winter whiting, they kept 4 each for a feed.
Regular Sydney clients Letitia and her sons Ryan and Matty picked the best day of the week, almost perfect weather and we decided to make it a lure only challenge for the day, they caught 50+ fish on blades, plastics, gulps with Letitia winning the day with 20 fish and biggest of the day, a flathead.
Throwing out a 2 inch Gulp Shrimp on 1/6 jighead and just placing the rod in a holder while drifting works well for flathead.
We’re in between seasons now so it’s a mixed bag and not a lot of size about the flathead still but that can change very quickly. A healthy system though with the amount of fish out there.
At the Tweed the water temperature is starting to cool down so there are some bream on surface lures around the shallow weed beds and the flatties are taking blades in the deeper holes. The dirty water in the far upper reaches is suiting the bass.
The next full moon lead up should provide some exciting estuary angling! This time last year the big sand whiting were out in full force, plus solid flathead.
