GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clinto

25 July 2025

Nice arrow squid around this week although the big night tides around new moon have stirred up the water. New moon is today, as soon as those tides settle down the water will get nice and clear.

Mornings next week with light wind will be good for catching squid. Best jigs have been Ecogear Dartmax, Fish Inc Egilicious, Yamashita Egi Oh Live and Daiwa Emeraldas Amorous joint in 3.0 sizes. I find white or orange type colours work well in the mornings on sunny days, then later green and gold, and natural colours, then pink in the afternoons. On cloudy days purple is great.

Again the stirred up and cold, silty water from the big tides slowed down the flats fishing, with the best results on flathead in the deeper 4-6m water using Ecogear ZX40 and Samaki Bladelicious. We also caught lots of squid, winter whiting, flounder, bream, tarwhine, and a few tailor on the blade lures around Southport, Runaway Bay, North Currrigee, and the Bayview channel.

Next week we have some good morning run in tides for squid, tailor, and sand whiting in the Nerang river.

I went to the fishing tackle show today and saw some very cool new stuff! The stand outs for me were the S Tackle soft plastics in new colours, Samaki fall prawns and amazing new rod range, My Lure Box new smaller soft glides, Rapala Crush City Tricksters soft crabs, new Crush City Imposter sizes and colours, new Tackle Tactics soft plastics colours and Y Ting system.

Some are in store at Sporty’s fishing right now, the others arriving soon!
