GOLD COAST ESTUARY FISHING REPORT by Clint

7 July 2024

Absolute garbage weather this past week with strong Southerly winds and rain. Postponed a number of charters but did get out fishing a few days. This coming week looks a lot better, as it should. A very busy week coming up for me, quiet weeks are rare. My next available days are 13 July then 22 July.

The bigger flathead are turning up, Lachie caught the biggest of the week measuring 89cm on 8 lb line and on a Samaki Redic 50 lure. There are lots of school size ones around too in the 38 to 58cm range. They are biting very aggressively too and are great fun on soft plastic, vibe, and hardbody lures. I’ll be running heaps of flathead charters between now and November, the Gold Coast is a great place to chase these fish.

My team mate Warric and I have entered the Gold Coast flathead classic twice now, finishing 2nd and 4th in the two person teams. If you’re thinking of entering the classic and would like to learn more, book a private lure fishing charter soon. The flathead classic is a great event run over three days and now open for entries in it’s milestone 30th year. It’s not all about the fishing either, with huge prizes to be won in random draws, and a great atmosphere and dinner served every night at the outdoor event area.

This coming week there are morning low tides then run ins which are good for chasing flathead as well as flounder, winter whiting, squid, tuskfish, and many more. Hopefully the tailor show up too although they do like bigger tides.
